Carl J. DeStefano, DC graduated Cum Laude from the National College of Chiropractic in 1984. He is certified in animal chiropractic by the AVCA. He has completed all the educational requirements for the Diplomat program from Options for Animals. Dr. DeStefano was an instructor in the Options for Animals Chiropractic course. In 2001, he joined the faculty of the first University sponsored Veterinary Manual Therapy program at Colorado State University where he taught technique and functional neurology. He also joined the faculty of the Healing Oasis Wellness Center, Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy state approved certification program where he teaches functional neurology and techniques. In 2003, Dr. DeStefano was asked to teach at the Tufts University Veterinary School program of Animal Chiropractic. He teaches post-certification classes to Veterinarians and Chiropractors in the specialized area of Applied Kinesiology and Neurology. He also teaches seminars on the diagnosis and treatment of allergies in animals. Dr. DeStefano is married to Dr. Dena Jersild, a veterinarian and fellow instructor and AVCA Certified Doctor. He is extremely proud of his three daughters. He maintains a busy human and animal practice near Chicago, Illinois. --------------------------------------------------- Garry Dulgar, DC has post-doctorate training in chiropractic orthopedics, applied kinesiology, Nimmo trigger point therapy, nutrition, acupuncture, and Cox decompression distraction adjustment and manipulation. In addition, Dr. Dulgar has taken post-doctorate training in comparative anatomy/motion palpation in the Chicago, Illinois area and is certified in animal chiropractic by the AVCA and is a past Board member and ACCC/AVCA Examiner. Dr. Dulgar has also been a guest lecturer at Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas and an instructor at Options For Animals. He is a Diplomate of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners, a member of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), Florida Chiropractic Association (FCA), the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER), and the International Alliance for Animal Therapy and Healing (IAATH). He is a lifetime member of the AVCA and is licensed by the State of Florida Department of Professional Regulation and has licenses at Tampa Bay Downs, Calder, and Gulfstream race tracks. --------------------------------------------------- Dennis Eschbach, BS, DC graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic in 1984 after completing his early studies at St. Louis University. His degrees include a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and a Doctor of Chiropractic. In 1990, Dr. Eschbach’s determination to attain further education in animal care lead him to Sharon Willoughby, DC, DVM, and her classes on animal chiropractic. In 1994 the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA) certified him in Animal Chiropractic. In addition to treating animal patients, Dr. Eschbach is an international speaker and instructor. Dr. Eschbach co-owns and operates Options for Animals International, the Options for Animals International Academy of Animal Chiropractic and the International Academy of Veterinary Chiropractic—UK. --------------------------------------------------- Joyce Harman, DVM, MRCVS graduated from Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1984 and became a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1985. She has been certified in veterinary acupuncture for fourteen years and veterinary chiropractic for a decade. She has since completed advanced training in homeopathy and herbal medicine and is currently working on a master’s degree in Chinese medicine. Dr. Harman has served as president of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association, chairman of the Alternative Medicine (Therapeutic Options) Committee for the American Association of Equine Practitioners, and has been a member of the task force on alternative medicine for the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). She has published over 40 papers in professional publications, given many lectures to professional audiences internationally, and was the team veterinarian for the USA East Endurance Team in the 1991 North American Championship race and for the gold medal winning team in Calgary, Canada, in 1993. Since 1990, Dr. Harman has owned and operated Harmany Equine Clinic, a holistic veterinary practice, in Washington, Virginia. Dr. Harman finds the best approach for the horse is a team approach involving veterinarians, therapists, farriers, dentists, riding instructors and saddle experts. She has become the first veterinarian to acquire a computerized saddle-fitting device, the SaddleTech unit. This equipment gives a color scan of the pressure points under as saddle while the horse is being ridden at all gaits. Her book, The Horse’s Pain-Free Back and Saddle-Fit Book, is a must-read for every rider. --------------------------------------------------- Kristinn Heinrichs, PhD, PT-SCS, ATC, CSCS, Diplomate ABPTS, specializes in exercise science, sports physical therapy and athletic training for high performance equine athletes. A published clinician and an international speaker and instructor on veterinary physical therapy and equine rehabilitation. Past Chair of the Education Committee of the Animal PT special interest group of the APTA. Dr. Heinrichs is at Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona. She is a lecturer for the Department of Kinesiology, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and as Graduate Faculty serves on MS and PhD committees. --------------------------------------------------- Julie A. Kaufman, DC completed the AVCA certification in 1990, earning the second animal chiropractic certification in the world. She is the owner of an integrative veterinary clinic, Animal Holistic Care Specialists of Wisconsin, (AHCS). Her clinic specialists offer: animal chiropractic, acupuncture, Chinese and western herbs, physical therapy, massage, reiki, craniosacral, animal communication, essential oils and flower essences, for large and small animals. AHCS is commencing a program in equine assisted psychotherapy, and equine assisted learning. The clinic animals are part of a community outreach and humane education effort, as well as continuing educational courses for chiropractors, veterinarians, and students. From 1989-1993, Dr. Kaufman was a regular lecturer for the Options for Animals and the AVCA, specializing in soft tissue techniques, low-force osseous adjusting, extremity adjusting, craniosacral applications for large and small animals, and public relations for animal chiropractic. Dr. Kaufman has written several books, and has been interviewed on CNN, published in Equus magazine, lectured in New York for the Association for Pet Loss Bereavement as well as the Arabian Horse Association in Scottsdale, Arizona. She has given radio, television and print interviews internationally. Her first book “Crossing the Rubicon: Celebrating the Human-Animal Bond in Life and Death,” 1999, Xenophon Publications, has been a valuable resource for those who have suffered the loss of a pet. Dr. Kaufman has three horses and competes in dressage, sport horse, hunt seat, and western events. Her late miniature therapeutic horse, “Tater” rode elevators to reach patients in nursing homes where he provided therapeutic visits for residents. The oldest of which was 109. --------------------------------------------------- Rick Kauffman, DC graduated Valedictorian from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1985. He also received the prestigious John Connelly Award (award is given once every 2 years) from Palmer College of Chiropractic. He adjusted his first animal at Palmer in 1983 and has enjoyed working with animals since that time. Dr. Kauffman is a board eligible DABCO. He attended Options for Animals and received his certification from the AVCA in 1998. He taught at Options for Animals for a few years. He has been teaching post-graduate Animal Chiropractic at Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas since 2003. He is currently teaching Neurology, Diagnosis, Pathology, Anatomy and Adjusting Techniques. Dr. Kauffman practices animal chiropractic throughout Western Colorado. He implements cold laser, percussion and applied kinesiology in his animal practice. --------------------------------------------------- David Levine, PT, PhD OCS, CCRP received a BS in physical therapy in 1986, an advanced master’s in orthopedic physical therapy in 1990, and a PhD in Exercise Science in 1994. He is a full professor Department Head, and holds the Walter M. Cline Chair of Excellence in Physical Therapy at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He is an adjunct associate professor at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, and an adjunct professor at North Carolina State University, College of Veterinary Medicine. He was instrumental in the development of the Orthopaedic Section, APTA, Inc. animal physical therapist special interest group. He has been teaching continuing education courses in this field since 1996, and teaches electives on this topic for several physical therapy schools and veterinary colleges. He has presented at numerous veterinary conferences including the American College of Veterinary Surgeons annual meeting, and The North American Veterinary Conference. He is also the co-director of the University of Tennessee Certificate Program in Canine Rehabilitation. --------------------------------------------------- Dina LiVolsi, BS, DC currently the staff chiropractor at Fox Run Equine Center (a full service 24-hour emergency equine hospital) in Apollo, PA, has been practicing chiropractic for 15 years, eight of those include working with animals. She has completed post-graduate training in animal chiropractic from Options for Animals and has received certification from the AVCA. Dr. LiVolsi has also completed all of the requirements, including a research project and internship, for the advanced certification. She has served as a Practice Standards committee member for the AVCA. She provides continuing education seminars, teaching her own EnergyWorks Chiropractic technique and the Intense Review “Plus” seminars. She also was part of a team, moderator and presenter that has sponsored the very successful CE-approved “Introduction to Complementary Medicine for the Veterinarian” seminar. Dr. LiVolsi has spoken at the Ohio State Board of Veterinary Medicine’s Midwest Conference and the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association’s Annual Conference. Appearing in many local media, Dr. LiVolsi has also traveled several times to Cairo, Egypt, where she adjusts military police horses, endurance racers, hunter/jumpers and guard dogs. |
